Unloading Baggage, Embracing Joy: Your Guide to a Happier You!

Let’s talk about emotional baggage

It’s that suitcase weighing that weighed me down and most times we have no idea that extra weight is from that. Sometimes that weight is not just emotions, memories of your ex but it could also be things.

Yes, girl THINGS!

In my case it was memories, beliefs and holding onto items that I had buried under a pile of clothes sitting in my closet. Just like my emotions I hid them hoping they would go away but the problem is when we choose to suppress our emotions it will have effects such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and difficulty forming healthy relationships.

In today’s blog, let’s explore what emotional baggage is and three things that can help you feel better.

These are 3 things that helped me and can help you.

  1. Knowing and Acceptance: At any stage of being newly divorced or separated you can be triggered to feeling upset, sad or easily become angry but that doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. Having these emotions are completely normal but it’s important to understand your feelings to start feeling better. Accepting your feelings will help you start feeling lighter.

  2. Journal your feelings: Get yourself a notebook, doesn’t have to be fancy but something that makes you feel joyful when you look at it. Whether you are having a good day, a bad day write it down. This is helping you let go of the heavy feelings and remember the good things.

  3. Write a happy list: Make a list of what makes you happy. This one is super helpful when you're feeling down, then look at the list and do one of the things from your list to help give you a happy boost. We will all have tough days with big feelings but just like a puzzle, you can put the pieces together to create a happier picture in your heart.

Emotional baggage can be a heavy burden but it’s one that you don’t need to carry indefinitely. Following these steps can give you self-awareness and a happy healthier you. Start unpacking your emotional baggage and experience a lighter, more liberating way of living.

Remember, the journey towards emotional well-being is a gradual process, and every step you take brings you closer to a more fulfilling and empowered life.
